Greetings, everyone! We'd like to announce that we've extended the deadline for our modding contest! The new deadline is now January 31st, 2012. We feel that hopefully this should give you all plenty of time for both the toolkit to be released, and for you to be able to create whatever you've envisioned over the weekend of Skyrim playing! The new announcement date for the Grand Prize $3,000 winner is on or around February 3rd.
Don't forget that we're also hard at work on getting Skyrim mods into our Curse Client! This feature should be released soon, the main benefits are twofold: It will not only make installation easier for the userbase, but it will also add your mod into our searchable database within the Client. This means more happy mod users and easier mod discovery for you!
With the update to our Client also comes an update to our Author Rewards program. Not only will we be more transparent with how this system works with all of our authors, but we'll also be handing out even more offerings and swag! The new program will be announced as soon as it's ready, and we can't wait to be able to reward all of you even better.
(Chef Lydia kindly thanks you for your time!)
@giskarduk
I've been there except with the 12 million or so WoW Addon users (once upon a time I wrote a lot of addons). I've also been with Curse for more than five years now and I've done my best to try to help those same issues in the design and features here and on Curse. We're also extremely receptive to more feedback. Please let me know what you think could be done better. :)
Thanks Wisefire
That is good because I am one of Oblivions best quest mod makers. I have more large quest mods to my name than any person or team living or dead and that makes me the most heavily flamed modder in TES history because large quest mods give trolls a lot to moan about and I made over 15 of them for Oblivion alone.
So your talking to the biggest piece of Troll bait on the planet.
Btw I freely admit i have a hard time saying anything positive about TES fans after my experiences with them during the past 5 years but I have a great set of mod fans and that are very supportive and very friendly and we have a had a great laugh since I stopped using Beth and Nexus and i make my mods for users like them now.
Not for the trolls. I find if i get in to a negative roll, it stay in it...... so your right, warm and fussy is the way to go. Make it a positive trend, keep it positive.
Hi, giskarduk! Thanks for your comments and concerns.
Curse currently only allows something like the Facebook like system for this precise reason, actually. We not only do not want abuse to appear in any form, but we'd also like to not give it a chance to start. At the same time, though, this allows users to give a really quick 'thank you'. Warm and fuzzy feelings all around at the click of a button. :D
We have a ticketing system where users/authors can easily report abusive comments or anything of the sort, too. You guys work hard on these mods, and we want you to feel accomplished and happy with the work you're submitting, not under attack. This is not something we tolerate or take lightly.
Thank you for being willing and wanting to post about us, as well. Positive word of mouth is always incredibly appreciated. :)
As a side note, we realise that even with the extended deadline of January 31st, modders in that department may still feel a bit rushed; however, the work that goes into quests and dungeons is precisely why that category has the higher payout. More reward for more work, and maybe seeing that higher payout would light a fire in modders to realize their creations sooner. :)
If you have any further questions, comments, or concerns, I'll be happy to address them!
Hello Skyrim Forge & Lydia
Please excuse me if I do not jump right in to using the site. My experience with sites like this one (Beth & Nexus especially) is that the modder falls easy victim to trolls because its easier for moderators and site owners to side with the 100 trolls attacking the 1 modder than to deal with root cause and stop it from happening entirely.
Typically the solution that works best for modders is to stop modding completely. The solution that works for my site is the enforcement of friendly, polite and construction feedback rules.
So I'll be watching to see how CURSE handles this before deciding if I wish to be involved here or not. One tip, do not implement voting systems its abused too much, if you must try the faced book likes system instead. Good as voting but cannot be used as a weapon. Its all positive and feed good stuff instead.
I'll put a news item up about you on the Engineering Guild website were my mod users. Most know what we modders go through on the main sites and would love to see more competition in the TES community so your arrival will be welcomed :)
Good luck, and hope you make a splash in the TES community.
Giskard (Oblivion modder, soon to be Skyrim modder)
PS I am the fastest quest mod maker in the OBlivion community and a good one takes 3 months for me, 2 years for others. So your deadline may not see any good submissions but it might attract more people to your site so I'll use that as the news.
